Ivan Yurukov

Ivan Yurukov is a prominent Bulgarian actor-director whose work combines classical theatre discipline with a creative sensibility for intimate, music-inflected storytelling. He graduated from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts “Kr. Sarafov” in 2004, studying under Prof. Stefan Danailov, and soon after joined the Ivan Vazov National Theatre in Sofia, where he has been a core member of the company since 2005.

On the stage, Ivan has portrayed a wide spectrum of characters, from Shakespeare’s Hamlet (as Horatio) and The Winter’s Tale, to Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, Wilde’s An Ideal Husband, and Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes. His performances are noted for emotional depth, precision, and a capacity to reveal vulnerability beneath classical texts.

In 2023, he made his debut as film director with Till the Final Caprice, a project years in the making, which centers on a virtuoso violinist of Bulgarian descent returning to his homeland in pursuit of artistic perfection. The film reflects Ivan’s long interest in music — he co-founded the band TERPENTINA, contributing vocals and guitar, and has written songs slated for an upcoming album.

Ivan is an award-nominated and celebrated figure in Bulgarian theatre, with multiple nominations for ASKEER and IKAR awards, including for lead roles in recent seasons.

Ivan lives and works in Bulgaria. He speaks French, English and Russian.
